March 15, 2012 - 2010 Standards for Accessible Design Effective Date

As discussed during the November 2011 webinar the "new" federal 2010 ADA publication has many changes. March 15, 2012 is the effective date for the changes along with requirements for use of the 2010 Standards for Accessible Design. You may have questions on how these guidelines and standards will impact your property. The attached Accessibility Guide for AmericInn Hotels is a brief document intended to provide you with information to aide you in understanding SOME of the requirements which may impact the operation of your hotel. The lodging industry continues to request the Department of Justice extend the effective date deadline and revise the guidelines to allow portable lifts. To date this request has not been successful. The attached information we feel is current with recent DOJ guidance. For more in depth information there are many sources available and a few of those are listed as well.
